Wanaka, New Zealand with Susan Allen

Meditation is cultivating the skill of becoming more present in each moment of our life, not just the big moments. A lovely bi-product of this is that the mind then becomes more settled, less-agitated and more perceptive. In this way meditation brings a greater sense of fulfilment and ease to our lives. Regular meditators sleep better, have less stress and more peace of mind. It’s a total game changer.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Many of us are familiar with a busy and distracted mind. When our mind is busy we become literally lost in our thoughts. In this state we disengage from the present moment and we miss the fullness of our experience at that moment. For example, have you ever been playing with your kids while thinking about some email you must send, or walking in our beautiful surroundings while worrying about something that is happening next week?

The practice of meditation will bring a total reset to your life.
It is one of the most transformative practices you can do and will forever change how you relate to yourself, to others and to your environment. It’s a reset against the humdrum of life.

Meditation practices are divided into two categories. One that helps build tranquility and calm, and one that inquires into how our mind works, how we get stuck in unhelpful thought patterns, and how we can move beyond them. We will touch on both of these in this course – bringing more quietness of mind into your daily life, and bringing more understanding around how you engage with your thoughts and emotions.

The practices we will cover help us distinguish between when we are operating out of distracted thought and when we are operating out of a present moment awareness. Rather than constantly getting lost in thought we learn to become conscious and aware of what’s unfolding in our direct present moment experience. Being present, aware of whatever is happening here and now.

This reduction in time spent lost in thought brings ease and a quietness very familiar to meditators.

This is a very practical course, with many suggestions given on how to bring the principles of mindfulness into your everyday life. Just as many of us look after ourselves physically by eating better or exercising more, meditation is about looking after ourselves mentally and emotionally. Everyone can do this practice, all you need to do is begin.
