Wanaka, New Zealand with Susan Allen

Mind and Breath offers Meditation courses and Breathing courses in Wanaka, New Zealand as well as online.

Mind and Breath courses are facilitated by Susan Allen. Susan has been working in this field in a variety of capacities for over 20 years and is passionate about sharing these two transformative modalities.

Following a career in Mechanical Engineering Susan moved into the yoga industry in 2002. Breathing and meditation are two key aspects of yoga that Susan quickly developed a curiosity for. Susan founded three yoga studios in Auckland and Wanaka which she has run over the last 15 years. Her teaching years have allowed her to observe and work with hundreds of clients, helping them begin and develop a personalised competency in breathing and meditation.

MEDITATION APPROACH

Susan has been very lucky to study with some of the world’s masters in the field of meditation. She has always been interested in the wide range of meditation techniques available and consequently has a broad knowledge of different practices and their varied effects. It is for this reason Susan is skilful in teaching meditation in a personalised way – whether the intention is to reduce stress, to improve sleep, promote healing or meditation as a path to awakening. Some of the techniques and teachers Susan has studied under are Osho, Goenke’s Vipassana, secular Buddhist Stephen Batchelor, Insight mindfulness practices, Satyananda’s yoga nidra and Tibetan Buddhist Mahamudra and Dzoghen practices under the guidance of Dr. Dan Brown.

Susan is deeply passionate about sharing her knowledge with others. Her skill of teaching a down to earth practice in an intelligent and structured way make meditation accessible to all.

BREATHING APPROACH

In 2012 after experiencing a major shift in her health after attending the Buteyko breathing course in Auckland, Susan subsequently trained to become a Buteyko Method breathing practitioner under Auckland’s breathing guru Glenn White. Buteyko is a sophisticated breathing re-training technique to normalise dysfunctional breathing patterns.

Having personally experienced a life ‘before Buteyko’ and one ‘after Buteyko’ Susan runs regular breathing courses to share this basic yet essential knowledge with others – how to breathe well.

On the Buteyko courses clients are given personalised breathing exercises over a 6 week period. Susan closely monitors their progress and offers unlimited private follow ups to ensure they get the most out of the course. Having worked to remould her breathing on a personal level over many years Susan understands the nuances of working with one’s breath. She is empathetic and skilful in helping her clients get the best results.
